Brynmill, with its mix of terraced houses, has long been the main student area for Swansea with over 8,000 students living there. In addition to the large number of students, it is a family area, chosen for its local schools and its convenience for the city centre and for the university. The walk to the university takes 10 to 15 minutes and the city is about 20 minutes away on foot. Several bus routes pass through here as well. Bryn Road is the most popular road in Brynmill to live on along with Malvern Terrace, Finsbury Terrace, King Edwards Road and St Albans Road.

Composed mainly of Victorian and Edwardian housing, the area is hilly, but it includes good local shopping, in particular the shops of Bryn y Mor road. The Guildhall, St Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground, are important local features, and there are local churches and two parks in the area - Victoria Park and Singleton Park. There is no shortage of cafes, bars and restaurants serving everything from fast food to fine eating.
