Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first held on April 22, 1970 and now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org.
The theme for Earth Day 2022 is "INVEST IN OUR PLANET", which focusses on the effects of climate change on the planet that we all share and what efforts are being made in the real world to mitigate it.
In keeping with the theme, Earth Day 2022 will centre on “accelerating solutions to combat our greatest threat, climate change, and to activate everyone — governments, citizens, and businesses — to do their part" announced the organisation.
On April 22nd, check out ways to help in the cause with ideas for your own personal projects for observing Earth Day 2022.
This year, Earth Day 2022 calls on everyone to divest from unsustainable investments; support eco-conscious brands and products; and to use your own skills and voice to fight climate change.
There are also several ways to celebrate at home or your backyard using the concepts of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".
You could:
- Turn off your lights on April 22nd.
- Spend a weekend morning to scour the neighbourhood for discarded plastics, cans, and bottles for a personal cleanup project that will help the entire community. If you live in a coastal area, this is especially important in helping to protect ocean wildlife.
- Donate some money to planet health related charities.
